Did your organization recently adopt a new board-approved vegan or vegetarian menu policy? Receive $1,000 for a vegan menu policy
or $250 for a vegetarian menu policy!

What is the Policy grant?

The Policy Grant is a one-time gift for organizations that adopt a new board-approved vegan or vegetarian menu policy. We offer $1,000 for a vegan menu policy or $250 for a vegetarian menu policy.

Who qualifies for the grant?

  • You are a companion animal organization.

  • You are a 501(c)(3) organization or registered charity.

  • You have recently adopted a written, board-approved vegan or vegetarian menu policy within the last 6 weeks. Organizations that upgraded from a vegetarian menu policy to a vegan menu policy can qualify.

  • Your policy must state that the food served at your organizational events will be fully vegan or vegetarian.

  • You regularly host events open to the public where food is served.

Who Doesn’t qualify for the Grant?

  • Vegan-based organizations, farmed animal sanctuaries, or organizations that already have a board-approved vegan menu policy. Our grants are an incentive for non-vegan organizations to adopt a vegan or vegetarian menu policy. We greatly appreciate the work you do though!

  • Social justice, environmental, or wildlife organizations. Unfortunately, we do not have funding for these types of organizations for this grant.

  • You have received a Food for Thought grant in the past. Qualifying organizations are only awarded 1 Food for Thought grant.

Grant Process:

  1. Adopt a written, board-approved vegan or vegetarian menu policy. Check out How to Adopt a Policy to learn more.

  2. Carefully read over the grant criteria. Then, apply for the Policy Grant.

  3. Email foodforthought@animalplace.org proof that your organization adopted a written, board-approved policy. It can either be:

    • Board meeting minutes.

    • Your policy language written on your organization’s letterhead and signed by your Executive Director or board.

    • A HelloSign document created by Food for Thought staff and signed by your Executive Director or board.

    • A policy statement on your website.

    • Other documentation showing formal adoption of a written policy.

  4. The Food for Thought Program Manager will contact you to schedule a Zoom or phone call. They will ask you questions about your organization and grant application.

  5. Your application will be reviewed. The Food for Thought Program Manager will contact you with a decision.

  6. If approved, Animal Place will mail your organization a check.

  7. Regardless of the decision, Food for Thought will add your organization as a Policy Leader!
